Welcome to Crucible for February 2010!

•January 21, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Here we go with another update of Crucible, and this one is going to be a huge one, as soon as it is completely finished. I got myself behind, and as such, there will be more content added in a few days. Hopefully you won’t mind. It will definitely be worth it. Read on to find out what I have for you now.

In this update, you will find an interview with Taiwan Extreme Metal band ChthoniC! An enormous thank you goes out to Shawn from Spinefarm Records / Tsunami Entertainment for helping get this one done. I would also like to sincerely thank Doris Yeh and Freddy Lim for their time in doing the interview. Also in this update is part one of a two part “The Crypt – Digging Up Old Bones” on the one and only Carcass. The reason it is so big is because I review “The Complete Pathologist’s Report” – The freshly released re-issues of the complete Carcass discography, which if you do it right, ends up being an entire box set. Pretty sick. On top of these items are the monthly news report from Pulverised Records, and about half of the reviews I meant to post. The other half will be up in a few days.

The Band Spotlight for this month goes to Akron, Ohio’s Ichabod Crane! These guys simply blew me away the first time I heard them, and I am damned proud to have them as my Band Spotlight. Keep your eyes peeled on the Crucible MySpace, as well, where I will post 3 songs and link you to their MySpace.

From the “Shit-I-Meant-To-Post-But-Haven’t-Yet” department is an enormous interview with the one and only Rick Rozz, of Death / Massacre fame. If you have been wondering what he has been up to all these years, you will get to find out in a few days. I have to pare the interview down from the hour and ten minutes of audio to a decent length interview, so be patient with me. Also to come are the rest of the interviews that were not posted here, so keep your eyes peeled.

As always, if you are a band that would like to have your music reviewed in Crucible, or if you are a label that would like your bands spotlighted here, please send me an email at cruciblezine@yahoo.com for more info. I am always taking submissions, so don’t be shy.

     Right! On with the show!

Welcome to Crucible for January 2010

Crucible wishes you all a very happy holiday season! Here we are in 2010 already, and there is some news on the Crucible front. Here is what you can expect in this installment of Crucible.

Crucible is proud to welcome Pulverised Records, Relapse Records, Spinefarm, and Viable Records to the family! Pulverised is kind enough to send their news items my way, and my promotional releases application is under review as we speak. Relapse is servicing me with new releases, as is Viable Records. Spinefarm is going an extra step by not only servicing me with releases, but they are also setting up interviews for me with bands from their roster. All of these came to me late in the update, so the majority of the reviews and interviews will be in the February installment. But for this one, we have a page dedicated to the news items I have recieved thus far from Pulveriser. You will find the link in the bar on the side.

I would like to congratulate Phoenix, Arizona’s SIX MILLION DEAD for being Crucible’s first monthly Band Spotlight! They have earned a page of their own on the site, that contains an interview and their Myspace link, along with my review of their debut full-length CD, Revelation At The End of Aeon. Check it out to learn about this seriously intense blackened Death Metal band from the desert.

Crucible Zine is now on Myspace! If you are a band or label, go to http://www.myspace.com/cruciblemetalwebzine and add me. The Band Spotlight will have their songs featured on the Myspace, as well. So, for this month of course, you will be able to go check out SIX MILLION DEAD there, as well.

Also in this installment of Crucible, you will get reviews of AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE, JOB FOR A COWBOY, CHTHONIC, SACRIFICIAL SLAUGHTER, ECRYPTUS, SINSTORM, and more.

As always, Crucible is looking for submissions for review. If you are a band that would like to have your CD reviewed on this site, or a label that would like to have your bands written up, please don’t hesitate to email me at cruciblezine@yahoo.com, or hit me up on MySpace http://www.myspace.com/cruciblemetalwebzine.

Keep your horns high!

Rough takeoff. Can we have a smooth flight?

What’s up?

If you have visited this page before, you will notice that the pages that I have up so far have gone from reading “November 2009” to reading “December 2009”. No, this is not a mistake. The reason for the change is that I started the ‘zine on November 27th. The content I had put up would actually be for December, and not for November. So, with that in mind…

…I am working on content for the January installment. I have reviews of bands ranging from Job For A Cowboy, Goatwhore, Chthonic, and more. I am also starting to get in some releases from unsigned bands, and will have several of those for you to chew on. The Crypt for the month of January will be huge, and one you won’t want to miss.

Starting with the January installment, I will be choosing one band per month to spotlight, both here on the site, and on the Crucible MySpace page.  That band will get their own featuer page here, and have their songs hosted for one month on the MySpace player for thousands to check out.

Keep your eyes peeled! The January installment will be up soon!

Crucible is always looking for material for review! If you are a band that would like to be written about, or if you represent a label, and would like to have your releases reviewed, please contact me: cruciblezine@yahoo.com

Hello Metal World!

•November 27, 2009 • 1 Comment

WELCOME TO CRUCIBLE – Crucible is, as the headline states, your monthly steaming pot of Metal. Welcome to it! Crucible is a brand new work-in-progress, and changes will be seen over the coming weeks as the blog/zine starts taking shape.

FEATURES – Crucible will features monthly essays of both a historical and editorial nature, such as The Crypt: Digging Up Old Bones (description below). Also on the block will be reviews of bands both signed and unsigned. There will also be the occasional concert review, non-musical articles of interest to Metal fans, and a links page that will go to various bands, distros, and labels.

NOVEMBER UPDATES

November 2009 is the inaugural installment of Crucible, and as such, there isn’t much to look at. That will change soon, however, and by the January 2010 installment we will be in full swing. Check out what we have for you so far…

The Crypt: Digging Up Old Bones is going to be a monthly feature, outlining classic genre-defining releases from the past. Some will be out of print, rare, or so deeply underground that very few have ever heard of them. Others will be more popular mainstream fare that can be considered essential. The first installment is a double, highlighting Dismember’s Like An Everflowing Stream and Forbidden’s Forbidden Evil. The Crypt is going to be one of my favorite features to write, and I hope it brings as much enjoyment to read.

REVIEWS – Feast on the smorgasbord that is our Metal scene, with releases by Abysmal Torment, Thou Art Lord, the brand new and crushing Noriega, and more. Reviews will be added over the next few days.

Please note that Crucible is always looking for new submissions for review! If you are a label that would like to have Crucible review your bands, or if you are a band that would like to appear here, please contact me at cruciblezine@yahoo.com for information!
